Sam has joined the Outdoor Partnership after working in the world of outdoor education for the last 9 years. He started as an apprentice in the New Forest, moved up to Scotland and ended up as a senior instructor in North Yorkshire.

Whilst working as an instructor Sam has dabbled in most outdoor sports but found his calling in caving and prefers nothing more than to be underground, unless it’s raining, then he may be found in a local bouldering wall.

Whilst working as an instructor Sam has found that his greatest enjoyment has come from engaging people from diverse backgrounds into activities, they wouldn’t normally have been offered a chance to try. Sam has seen the benefits these activities can bring to peoples lives and is very much looking forward to doing more of this in his new role.

Apart from outdoor activities, Sam enjoys spending time in his shed attempting some DIY, going to gigs, and cooking on the BBQ.

The outdoors has always been a part of my life. I was raised on a farm, in school I attended a lot of sports events.

I didn’t do any outdoor sports until I went to college, I did an Outdoor Adventure lvl3 course. Since then, I’ve been working towards some qualifications that would allow me to work in the outdoors industry.

During my time at college, I had a brilliant opportunity to experience and develop myself, like I said before I hadn’t done anything outdoorsy. I got to kayak, canoe, sail, climb, hill walking and did some winter skills up in Scotland.
