The Health and Wellbeing programme brings together partners from the outdoor, health and community sectors to increase physical activity, improve mental and physical health, and create sustainable pathways into local clubs, groups and support networks. Through initiatives such as Opening Doors to the Outdoors, Adventure Therapy and Land to Water Social Prescribing, the programme is helping to embed outdoor activity within health and community services, enabling more people to lead independent, active lifestyles and encouraging organisations to adopt new ways of working that integrate outdoor wellbeing into their routine delivery.
Building on the growing evidence base for social prescribing, this project promotes activity as a recognised health intervention alongside traditional healthcare approaches. By strengthening partnerships between healthcare providers, community organisations and outdoor activity networks, it is driving systems change that improves access, reduces barriers to participation and creates long term, preventative approaches to health and wellbeing. As a result, partners are not only referring more people into outdoor opportunities but are reshaping services, referral pathways and collaborative working practices to make outdoor activity a more established part of health and well-being provision.
