About the club
Welcome to Mynyddwyr de Cymru (MDC), the largest and friendliest Mountain Running Club in South Wales.
The club was formed after the first Llanbedr to Blaenavon fell race in 1980, and from humble b
eginnings we have grown to be very successful – but still retain that ‘small club’ feeling.
Runners meet and run across South Wales, though we have a particular fondness for the Brecon Beacons National Park. Members also regularly take part in fell, mountain and hill running events all over Wales and abroad, including the infamous Transfan! Fell running is the club’s main activity, but members are also cavers, climbers, cyclists, kayakers, and much more.
Club members are prolific race organisers, and are always looking for volunteers to marshal – it’s a great way to see what fell running is all about and meet club members. MDC enters Men’s and Women’s teams into many local races, as well as events further afield such as the FRA Fell Relays.
From April to October we train weekly on Tuesday nights and usually finish with a meal and a pint in a local pub. During the winter months this becomes a fortnightly meet for a run in the dark. For details see our list of Training Runs on the website.
Our members also organise many informal activities on our facebook group, which you are welcome to come along to.
